Thai AirAsia returns to Suvarnabhumi on October 1

Thai AirAsia will resume domestic operations from Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 1, 2026, with direct flights to Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi as part of a major increase in fourth-quarter capacity ahead of the year-end high season.

The airline will continue its dual-airport strategy in Bangkok, operating 22 direct routes from Don Mueang International Airport and three from Suvarnabhumi. Its network will also include nine cross-regional routes designed to improve domestic connectivity and support regional economies.

Phairat Pornpathananangoon, chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia, said the airline had previously been required to reduce flights because of persistently high aviation fuel prices and softer travel demand.

However, it expects domestic tourism to recover strongly during the fourth quarter and continue into early 2027, supported by the annual high season and tourism-stimulus measures planned by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

“We are therefore increasing routes and frequencies to provide passengers with greater convenience, value and international service standards, particularly through our commitment to safety and on-time performance,” Phairat said.

Domestic flights to rise by more than 50%

Between October and December, Thai AirAsia will operate up to 135 domestic flights a day, an increase of more than 50% from the third quarter’s average peak of 88 daily flights.

Don Mueang will remain the airline’s main operating base. Flights from the airport will increase to as many as 17 a day to Chiang Mai, 15 to Phuket and nine to Hat Yai.

The airline will also operate up to six daily flights each from Don Mueang to Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Krabi and Chiang Rai, as well as up to five daily services to Ubon Ratchathani.

Three routes resume from Suvarnabhumi

From October 1, Thai AirAsia will operate six daily flights between Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Mai, five daily flights to Phuket and two daily flights to Krabi.

The services will provide travellers with more options when flying between Bangkok and the three major domestic destinations, while strengthening connections for passengers using Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Phuket gains direct links to Northeast

Thai AirAsia will also add cross-regional connections from Phuket to northeastern Thailand from October 25.

The Phuket–Khon Kaen route will operate up to three times a week, while Phuket–Udon Thani services will run up to four times weekly.

The new services form part of the airline’s wider effort to expand travel between regions without requiring passengers to connect through Bangkok.
