Thailand face Indonesia in Asian volleyball title defence
Thailand meet Indonesia at 2pm in Tianjin after both opened with straight-set wins, with the Asian champions pursuing a direct LA28 berth.
Defending champions Thailand will face unbeaten Indonesia at 2pm on Monday (August 24, 2026) at Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium in their second Pool B match of the AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship.
Both teams enter the contest after taking maximum points without dropping a set. Thailand defeated Australia 3-0 in their opening match, while Indonesia began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan.
The 12-team championship is being held in Tianjin from August 21 to 30. The eventual champions will qualify directly for the women’s volleyball tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three finishers will secure places at the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
Both sides open with straight-set victories
Thailand began their title defence by overcoming Australia 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18 on Friday.
Sasipapron Janthawisut led the scoring with 19 points, while Pimpichaya Kokram contributed 12. Chatchu-On Moksri added nine points, including six aces.
Indonesia’s opening match against Kazakhstan was closer throughout, but the Southeast Asian side held firm at the end of all three sets to win 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23.
Outside hitter Arsela Nuari Purnama scored a match-high 19 points for Indonesia, comprising 16 attacks, one block and two aces.
Thailand and Indonesia had three points apiece after their opening matches. Kazakhstan also had three points after completing two matches, while Australia remained without a point following two defeats.
