Ministers have approved a 100 million baht relief package for Nan, deploying military engineers to clear mud-ravaged Pua district within seven days.
The Thai government has released an emergency allocation of 100 million baht from the Comptroller-General's Department to deliver direct financial compensation to flood victims across Nan province within three to five days.
Local sub-district administrative organisations and village headmen are distributing damage assessment forms to compile household data. District chiefs have been instructed to fast-track financial transfers so impacted families can begin rebuilding immediately.
Announcing the measures on 22 August 2026, Deputy Prime Minister's Office spokesperson Capt Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn confirmed that financial assistance is being combined with an intensive, cross-agency recovery operation led by military engineers.
Following an emergency meeting at the Nan Provincial Incident Command Centre chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat, the government has set a strict seven-day target to clean and restore the heavily damaged Pua district.
Drawing on lessons from the Mae Sai recovery operations in Chiang Rai, Yodchanan coordinated directly with Defence Minister Lt Gen Adul Boonthamcharoen to deploy military engineers and heavy plant machinery from the Royal Thai Army Engineer Department.
Reinforcements will assist the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in Pua municipality, particularly across Sila Laeng and Wora Nakhon sub-districts, where thick mud deposits and heavy debris have left elderly residents unable to clear their homes.
Deputy Interior Minister Jadesat Thaiseth noted that without army assistance, local clearance efforts could have dragged on for up to 30 days.
The government is executing three additional priority measures across the province:
Bridge Repairs & Highway Clearance: Deputy Transport Minister Pattarapong Pattaraprasit ordered the installation of two temporary Bailey bridges by 23 August to restore cut-off transit routes. Highways 137 and 1256 are undergoing debris clearance and safety installations.
Embankment Breach Repairs: The Royal Irrigation Department and private contractors are sealing breached embankments along the Khwang and Pua rivers where diverted floodwaters hit residential areas. High-capacity pumps have been installed to drain lingering flood pockets.
Ongoing Alert Status: Over 136 mm of rainfall was recorded in 24 hours, leaving 35 villages across Mueang Nan, Wiang Sa, and Phu Phiang districts submerged. Local authorities remain on high alert for potential mountain runoff while zoning areas to allocate machinery efficiently.
