Queen Mother homage suspended for September 2 ceremony
The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew will remain open on September 2, but public homage to Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother will be suspended
The Bureau of the Royal Household has announced revised access arrangements for the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, or Wat Phra Kaew, on Wednesday (September 2, 2026), when a Thaksinanupadana merit-making ceremony, known as Kong Tek, will be held for the royal remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
Admission tickets for the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew will be sold as usual from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.
However, public access to pay homage to the royal remains of Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall will be suspended throughout the day.
Members of the public may still pay respects to the royal remains of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita at the Piman Rataya Pavilion from 8 am to 8 pm. The screening point in the Na Phra Lan Road pedestrian underpass will close at 7 pm.
Visitors must dress respectfully. Those entering to pay homage to the royal remains should wear appropriate mourning attire. Men are not permitted to wear jeans, while women must wear a skirt or traditional wraparound skirt.
