Anutin heads to Australia and New Zealand to boost trade and investment
Anutin Charnvirakul will visit Australia and New Zealand from August 17 to 22 to deepen strategic ties and expand trade and investment.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his delegation are scheduled to make official visits to Australia and New Zealand from August 17 to 22, with the government seeking to deepen bilateral relations and economic cooperation under strategic partnership frameworks that generate long-term opportunities and mutual benefits.
At its August 11 meeting, the Cabinet approved a draft Joint Declaration on the Strategic Partnership between the Kingdom of Thailand and New Zealand. The declaration is intended to expand cooperation across four pillars: politics and security; economy, trade and innovation; culture and people-to-people links; and regional and multilateral cooperation.
In the economic sphere, Thailand and New Zealand aim to triple two-way trade by 2045 through closer cooperation in agriculture, digital innovation, renewable energy and supply-chain connectivity.
The two countries also plan to build on the Thailand-New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership, or TNZCEP, to reduce trade barriers and support small and medium-sized enterprises.
During the visit to Australia, Thailand plans to build on the Joint Plan of Action to Implement the Thailand-Australia Strategic Partnership 2022–2025. Particular emphasis will be placed on the joint statements on deepening economic engagement and combating transnational crime.
The New Zealand declaration will build on the Joint Plan of Action for the Thailand-New Zealand Strategic Partnership 2026–2030, which the two countries signed in November 2025.
The five-year roadmap is intended to deliver tangible cooperation in areas including investment, education and travel facilitation for businesspeople and students, while supporting activities marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and New Zealand in 2026.
The initiative reflects the Thai government’s proactive approach to strengthening relations with Oceania, improving national competitiveness and broadening Thailand’s economic base sustainably.
